Abderraouf obtained his Ph.D. in Electronic and Robotics from the University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB), Algeria. Currently, Abderraouf is working as a Post-doctoral fellow with SDU-Biorobotics, MMMI, University of Southern Denmark (SDU).
Prior to joining SDU, Abderraouf worked, for 7 years, in the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CDTA), Algeria. He has also actively engaged in teaching and supervision activities at the University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB), Algeria.

Abderraouf's areas of research interest are Autonomous robots, Artificial Intelligence and Optimization, Machine Learning, Multi-robot systems, Decentralized multi-agent control, and Industry 4.0.

The majority of his current research interests focus on the emergence of coordination/cooperation in larges teams of intelligent robots, each making decisions based on their own local understanding of the environment. He is particularly interested in the shift towards decentralized control, where each robot is responsible for its own decision-making, as opposed to centralized control.  This research is aimed at achieving more efficient and effective operations in various industries such as logistics, manufacturing and transportation.

Applications range from robust real-time decision-making in autonomous robotic systems, where robot/agent needs to operate autonomously in dynamic environments, to large fleets of robots, where independent robots/agents need to coordinate their actions to effectively accomplish assigned tasks.
